Department of Accountancy


The Department of Accountancy Studies was established in 2004 and accredited to start the Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy Studies the same year.


To become the first choice for the study of HND Accountancy Studies in Ghana through innovative and appropriate skills training based on the demands of industry, commerce and the public service.


To produce competent, confident and committed accountants who will demonstrate intelligence, innovation and ingenuity in the provision of relevant services in a manner that is acceptable to employers in industry, commerce and the public service.

Community Service Provided by Staff

Iddrisu N. Mohammed:

  • Part-time teaching, at KNUST Institute of Distance Learning Commonwealth Executive Masters of Business Administration in Accounting & finance and Advanced Strategic Management, since February 2012 to date.
  • Part-time Lecturer Concord Business College, Wa Study Centre in Financial Performance Management and Risk Management for Financial Managers, since June 2012 to date.
  • Adjunct Lecturer, UDS, Wa Campus, since May 2010 to date; teaching post graduate courses in Finance for non-finance managers; Procurement Management; Public Sector Financial Management and Financial Reporting II at level 300.

The department plan to;

  1. Run a short course in Computerised Accounting in the 2013/2014 academic year where participants will be taken through three Accounting Packages namely: Sage Pastel, Tally and Quick books. The programme targets out-of-school professionals, accountants, bankers, churches as well as students of Wa Polytechnic and University for Development Studies. This will be done in partnership with BS Africa Limited (a firm of Chartered Accountants and Management Consultants).
  2. Run the part-time HND Programme in the evenings or weekends should the staff strength improve.
  3. Organise workshops on completing and submitting tax returns for small businesses in collaboration with Latuo and Associates (a firm of Chartered Accountants and Business Consultants) in Wa, and in co-operation with the Ghana Revenue Authority.
  1. Review the content of the academic curricula to respond to the current development and situation.
  2. Form a Programme Advisory Board (PAB) for the department.

Department of Secretaryship and Management Studies


The Department of Secretaryship and Management Studies was established in 2003 and was accredited to run the HND Secretaryship and Management Studies programme. The Department turned out its eighth batch of graduates in the 2013/2014 academic year.


Our vision is to be seen as the true centre of excellence and to be the yard-stick for measuring career- focused clerical and managerial practice in Ghana and possibly in the West African sub-region.


As an academic unit in a polytechnic with its motto: Knowledge, Application and Service, we stand for:

  • Providing opportunities to have work place experience whiles in training;
  • Assisting / encouraging lecturers and instructors to update themselves;
  • Ensuring a quality career- focused computer literate education, relevant for a modern secretary / manager;
  • Inducing a positive frame of mind among staff; and
  • Motivating students to develop confidence and positive attitude to life.
