Department of Accountancy

Overview

The Department of Accountancy Studies was established in 2004 and accredited to start the Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy Studies the same year.

 Vision

To become the first choice for the study of HND Accountancy Studies in Ghana through innovative and appropriate skills training based on the demands of industry, commerce and the public service.

 Mission

To produce competent, confident and committed accountants who will demonstrate intelligence, innovation and ingenuity in the provision of relevant services in a manner that is acceptable to employers in industry, commerce and the public service.

The department plan to;

  1. Run a short course in Computerised Accounting in the 2013/2014 academic year where participants will be taken through three Accounting Packages namely: Sage Pastel, Tally and Quick books. The programme targets out-of-school professionals, accountants, bankers, churches as well as students of Wa Polytechnic and University for Development Studies. This will be done in partnership with BS Africa Limited (a firm of Chartered Accountants and Management Consultants).
  2. Run the part-time HND Programme in the evenings or weekends should the staff strength improve.
  3. Organise workshops on completing and submitting tax returns for small businesses in collaboration with Latuo and Associates (a firm of Chartered Accountants and Business Consultants) in Wa, and in co-operation with the Ghana Revenue Authority.
  1. Review the content of the academic curricula to respond to the current development and situation.
  2. Form a Programme Advisory Board (PAB) for the department.
